How To Choose The Best Swim Shorts

How To Choose The Best Swim Shorts - Bondi Joe Swimwear

When you're choosing mens swim shorts, it's a good idea to think about social media. Huh? Well, think about it. That picture of you on the beach is going to be out there in the ether for ever. Your children and your grandchildren, not to mention your friends, girlfriends, potential employers, yes they are all going to see that image of you in the baggy board shots with your bum hanging over the top, or the tiny little budgie smuggler swim pouch that leaves almost nothing to the imagination. Just not cool. That's why when you choose swim shorts, you have to stop thinking like a lad, and start thinking like a gentleman. And that means choosing beach shorts that can take you for beach to bar in style and comfort.

The Right Swim Shorts For You

Start off with your height. Are you under around 5ft 9”? Then you want to aim for beach shorts with a shorter leg, to avoid the Little Orphan Andy look with the shorts flapping around your knees. Taller that that? Go for a longer leg, enhancing your height but not looking skimpy. Leg length can also give off a certain vibe. The longer leg has a rather cool look, one that we associate with California. Shorter leg beach shorts have a slightly crisper, more preppy feel to them.

Carrying A Little Too Much Weight?

Make sure your shorts fit well, and pay particular attention to a comfortable fitting waist band – too tight just accentuates your size. Go for plain solid colours, patterns are not a good choice, unless of course you really love them.

Tall And Skinny?

Pay attention to fit, you can afford to have shorts that are just a little baggy, and don't be afraid of patterns.

Are You Conservative?

It's a funny question, but, if you tend to be a bit more restrained in your dress than other guys, then you will most likely feel happiest with a slightly longer leg swim short. And when you feel comfortable, you look good. If you have a more adventurous nature, then you might like to show a bit more leg! Strangely enough, the longer look is also associated with the surfer lifestyle, especially if you choose a vivid colour or a bright pattern. So our advice is, try a couple of leg lengths and just buy what feels good. A good rule of thumb for fabric is, the shorter the leg, the better it looks in a solid colour.

Fabric Type

Here, it's pretty straight forward. The more swimming you're going to do, the more important it is to choose a light weight, man made fabric that dries quickly. Look out for “technical” fabrics, which really perform well for mens swim shorts.
